Robbie Williams Adds Extra Shows To Australian Tour

Tickets for Robbie Williams' October tour of Australia are drying up swiftly around the country, resulting in the British crooner adding a further two dates to his impending antipodean sojourn to help meet demand.

Williams will now perform additional shows for his Let Me Entertain You tour in both Adelaide (Wednesday, 14 October, Adelaide Entertainment Centre) and Melbourne (Friday, 23 October, Rod Laver Arena) to complement his existing first shows at the city's respective venues on 13 and 22 October.

Organisers have advised that tickets for further tour stops Perth (9 October), Brisbane (17 October) and Sydney (27 October) are all selling with haste, so you may want to get onto that sooner rather than later, because — as always — there are no guarantees of more shows.

The world-renowned Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is heading to Melbourne for the first time in the show's 65-year history.



It has previously been to Sydney twice, in 2005 and 2010, but the show has only ever been performed outside of Scotland three times.



At least 1,200 performers are expected to take part in the three performances in February next year, with a blend of military ceremony, music and entertainment.



Australian performers will also take part the extravaganza, which will be made up of pipes, drums, fiddlers and Highland dancers.



Show producer Brigadier David Allfrey said the military tattoo had a strong sense of tradition.



"Although it is authentic it doesn't change a great deal, it's innovative," Brigadier Allfrey said.



"I think people do like something that doesn't change all that much and this show has an extraordinary power to reach the emotion and we have very emotional scenes every year.



"When people hear the pipes an instrument where you cannot turn down the volume, it is a very, very special instrument and that noise and sound does create and evoke an emotional response."



The show will be performed at Docklands Stadium and will include a replica of Scotland's Edinburgh Castle.



"The replica here will be built with the statue of Robert the Bruce and Wallace on either side," he said.



"It'll have a draw bridge exactly like we do in Edinburgh."



The set will be built in Australia in sections.



Melbourne Lord Mayor Robert Doyle said the show will be a good way to showcase the city to a worldwide audience.



"You can absolutely guarantee that Etihad Stadium will be full every single performance, and there is a world television audience of up to a 100 million people," he said.



"Melbourne is the epicentre of world events and we're very proud of that."

One of the most successful and influential British bands of the 1980s, Spandau Ballet, will bring their ‘Soul Boys of the Western World Live’ Tour to Australia in May next year. Kicking off in Brisbane on Wednesday 13 May and playing shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

About the Backstreet Boys:



The Backstreet Boys (sometimes referred to as BSB) are an American vocal group, formed in Orlando, Florida in 1993. The group consists of A. J. McLean, Howie Dorough, Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson, and Brian Littrell.



The group rose to fame with their debut international album, Backstreet Boys (1996). In the following year they released their second international album Backstreet's Back (1997), and their U.S. debut album which continued the group's success worldwide. Following its triumphant season in London’s West End, the acclaimed revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s record-breaking musical CATS comes to Australia for a strictly limited season, opening in Sydney on 30 October 2015 then touring to Hobart, Melbourne and Brisbane. Tickets go on sale on Friday 24 April. CATS is touring to Adelaide and Perth in 2016 with dates and booking information to be released at a later date. 

The hit revival, which was reworked for the most recent season in the West End by the original creative team - Director Trevor Nunn, Choreographer & Associate Director Gillian Lynne, Set Designer John Napier and Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber – received excellent reviews and extended its season due to overwhelming demand.

The 2015 Olivier Award-nominated CATS introduces a rapping ‘street cat’ in the famous Rum Tum Tugger role, who performs some serious breakdancing moves.

“I’ve come to the conclusion that having read Eliot again, maybe Eliot was the inventor of rap”, says Lloyd Webber.

Based on T. S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the show is set amongst a larger-than-life junkyard playground and is alive with our favourite feline characters including Rum Tum Tugger, Mr. Mistoffelees, Macavity, Jennyanydots, Old Deuteronomy, Grizabella and Skimbleshanks.

The Jellicle Cats come out to play on one special night of the year – the night of the Jellicle Ball. One by one they tell their stories for the amusement of Old Deuteronomy, their wise and benevolent leader, who must choose one of the Cats to ascend to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life.

CATS, one of the longest-running shows in West End and Broadway history, received its world premiere at the New London Theatre in 1981 where it played for 21 record-breaking years and almost 9,000 performances. The production was the winner of the Olivier and Evening Standard Awards for Best Musical. In 1983 the Broadway production became the recipient of seven Tony awards including Best Musical, and ran for 18 years.

Top Gear Festival Sydney Will Go Ahead

Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond are coming – but the show won't be called Top Gear and it will be indoors in Sydney and Melbourne.

The Top Gear Live Festival will go ahead in Australia and Jeremy Clarkson is coming, even though he has been sacked by the BBC from the hit TV show.

BBC Worldwide has agreed that the show can go on but without BBC or Top Gear branding.

A statement from BBC Worldwide said the shows would go ahead "so as not to disappoint the thousands of people around the world who have already purchased tickets. These events will not however feature any BBC Top Gear branding or content. We believe this is a sensible approach in the circumstances".

However, the dates have been moved from April to July and the event is now being held indoors rather than at a race track.

Two Melbourne shows have been added to the calendar but the change in dates is likely to leave interstate show-goers out of pocket when they rebook flights and accommodation.

"A decision has been made to reschedule the festival planned for Sydney in April until July of this year and will instead become an indoor arena show staged in both Melbourne on 18-19 July and Sydney on 25 -26 July," the BBC statement said.

It will be the first time all three presenters — Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May — will make the trek Down Under for the performance; the previous Australian Top Gear Live shows only had two of the three presenters, but always with Clarkson as the main host.

The BBC statement said: "We'd like to thank our ticket holders for their continued patience. The fans are the most important people to Jeremy, Richard and James so we're delighted to be able to say 'we're still coming'."

News Corp Australia understands organisers stood to lose millions of dollars — and thousands of fans would have been entitled to refunds — if the show did not go ahead as planned.

Organisers called it "a great solution for the fans".

A statement from Brand Events said ticket-holders will be able to exchange their old tickets for new ones after April 10.

"The new event...will be an arena format starring Jeremy, Richard and James - simply titled ‘Clarkson, Hammond and May Live', and they'll be staged in both Sydney and Melbourne," said a bulletin from Brand Events.

Organisers say they are making “appropriate provisions” to ensure the BBC is not brought into "disrepute" by the presenters during the live shows.

News Corp Australia understands any content directly related to or inspired by Top Gear TV will not be part of the live events, which means The Stig, clips from the TV show and the theme music cannot be used.

Meanwhile, the BBC says the TV show’s future “is not in doubt”.

“We have committed to its renewal and return in good shape in 2016,” said a BBC statement.

Organisers said cancellation of the live show “was always an option” but they didn’t want to disappoint more than 100,000 fans who’d bought tickets.

The consortium insists forging ahead with the show was not a money-grabbing exercise, claiming the priority is to “simply cover costs”.

Exisiting ticket holders will have the choice of swapping for tickets to the new shows, or they will be refunded.

Prices and details for the new shows will be available after April 10.

Organisers said new tickets would only be released after existing ticket holders had an opportunity to swap their entry passes to the new shows.
